OVERVIEW

This project uses the data from the NYC open data on streetlights. All data is based on reports made by concerned citizens as of October 1st of 2021. It is possible not all city lights are accounted for.

Through the use of python, I was able to manipulate the large data set and make a conclusion that most of the cases made are from Queens.

BREAKDOWN OF CLOSED CASES IN NYC

As shown on the graph above most of the closed cases can be found in Queens, and the least can be found in Staten Island.

Queens is the largest out of the five boroughs and this may have a significant effect on the number of streetlights.

Staten Island can be considered a different case. Though it is larger than Manhattan, it has fewer cases. It is possible that the busy dynamic in Manhattan has an effect on its number of lights.

RATE OF CLOSED CASES IN EACH BOROUGH

Staten Island has the highest rate of closed cases. 82.04% of the reported cases of malfunctioning streetlights and lampost have been closed and dealt with.

The Bronx, on the other hand, has resolved only 61.68% of their cases.

WHICH BOROUGH CAN RESOLVE THE ISSUE THE QUICKEST?

Staten Island is the quickest when it comes to resolving issues.  On the other hand, Manhattan is the slowest. The busy streets of Manhattan may have an effect on DOT reaction time to fix the lights.
